February 19, 2019 Story Swap — Michael Schmitt: Stories That Shaped My Life
Michael Schmitt will be telling true stories that have shaped his life. Schmitt will be the featured teller at the free Story Swap, Tuesday, February 19th at 7 p.m. in the Carver room of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. He adds actual character voices during the dialogue and creates an environment that gets the audience to immerse themselves into the stories through body language using the stage and even the occasional prop.
Schmitt is a local author who has been writing stories for several years. Recently, retirement has refocused his energy to publishing these stories that have shaped his life in many ways. His first book L.I.V.E 2.0 was a successful upload to Amazon and has some great reviews. Without wasting any momentum he jumped on the second and third books contained in his many spiral notebooks and are scheduled to be released early 2019. Utilizing his past experience as a performer and public speaker Michael is busy telling the stories that shaped his life.
Although Schmitt was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula he says, “my imagination took me on adventure across the world and occasionally beyond our universe. The outdoors was a world of never ending escapades: from swashbuckling pirates battling the Krakken on the open seas to the underground lair of the fire breathing dragon and her trove of gold.” As an improv actor/director he brings those stories to life.
Schmitt’s clean style humor is the focus of his enthusiastic and energetic performances. A clever combination of storytelling and unique impersonalities takes his audience on an engaging journey of the past, present and future. He has performed as a comedian, stage and close up magician, hosted multiple types of entertainment venues from comedy and variety shows, sports events and fashion shows to Master of Ceremonies for the Toastmaster International Spring Conference. With a variety of impersonalities he has done voice work in radio and performed in Improv Theater. Michael is currently expanding his repertoire in doing voice work in movies, cartoons and radio, Narration, audio books and continuing stand-up comedy.
After a short refreshment break, there is an open mic session for anyone to step up and share a short tale.
