Ken Dubuc featured Wed. January 3rd, 2024
We will kick off the new year with an enormously popular local storyteller! Ken Dubuc, retired Porth Angeles fire chief will be our featured teller. He’s not giving out any hints of what stories he will tell. But his history should give you a sense of what a rollicking great evening he will present. Ken says, “I was born and raised in Northern California, graduated from UC Davis and spent 12 years as a US Naval Officer. Worked for various fire Departments in California, Oregon and Washington, finishing my career as Chief of the Port Angeles Fire Department. After retiring, I have done part time work as a NASA test pilot and volcanologist for the USGS. I dabble in part-time neuro surgery, have entered several Liars contests and actually won once or twice. I’m not sure why I have done so well, since all of my stories are 100% true. Really, ask my wife, Teresa, she will vouch for me.”
Open Mic
The featured teller will be preceded by open mic storytelling. Audience members are welcome to share a story of up to 10 minutes length. Anyone interested in telling a story is strongly encouraged to develop it and practice it at the monthly Story Work session on Zoom — find more information on our Facebook page. Guidelines for storytellers can be found by clicking here.
Membership Meeting
All members are invited (even requested) to come at 6:30 for a once-a-year membership meeting (which has not been held in several years). New members are welcome to join at the meeting. At this meeting we will share our plans for upcoming storytelling events, will take suggestions for events you would like, or changes you might suggest to storytelling events, and we will vote for board members. If you would like to volunteer to join our board, please let us know! We welcome your contribution of your interests, skills, abilities, time, and/or money. Particular needs we have at the moment include: Volunteer coordinator, someone who is good at motivating and organizing people to help put on storytelling events, and/or fundraising events; Treasurer, or assistant treasurer, someone who is comfortable with computers and can learn to use QuickBooks to track our accounts; Secretary, someone who is comfortable with wordprocessing to take notes at the board meetings and organize our files; Board member at large, anyone who has energy, skills , and ideas to contribute to the work of the story people.
