Margo McLoughlin
Margo McLoughlin is a storyteller, writer and mindfulness educator, based in the Comox Valley. Margo grew up on the west coast of Canada. She studied theatre and history at McGill University in Montreal, volunteered as a teacher in Nigeria, and worked as a puppeteer at the Campbell River Museum on Vancouver Island. She completed a Master’s degree at the Divinity School at Harvard, where she studied Sanskrit and Pali.
A graduate of the Harvard Divinity School, she has been exploring the connections between spirituality and creativity for more than twenty years. In 2020, she led a wildly popular mindfulness program at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, attended by over 700 elementary students. She has led workshops on mindfulness and storytelling for all ages, and offers her course “Tending the Spark: Mindfulness and the Creative Life” both online and in-person on an annual basis. Most recently, she gave a retreat and a four-part series titled: “Under the Tree of Awe: Awakening Wonder and Caring for the World.”
Faye Mogenson
A writer, gardener, naturalist and visual artist, Faye Mogensen has been performing as a storyteller for almost 40 years. She loves to share folktales and myths that celebrate nature, and explore generosity and hope. Her original stories are inspired by her large family, her travels around the world, and time in nature. Faye has shared her favourite tales in parks, museums, churches, schools, libraries and seniors’ centres across Canada, and has traveled with them as far as Washington State, Denmark, Sierra Leone, India and the Canary Islands.
Open Mic
The featured teller will be preceded by open mic storytelling. Audience members are welcome to share a story of up to 10 minutes length. Anyone interested in telling a story is strongly encouraged to develop it and practice it at the monthly Story Work session on Zoom — find more information on our Facebook page.
