Billie Mazzei Shares a Hopi Story, a Jewish Folk Tale, a Barroom Joke and More!
Billie Mazzei connects with people through stories…theirs, hers and the larger stories of life. She has been telling stories since she was a little girl. Then she got scolded for telling stories, now she gets applause. She comes from a storytelling family; both her father and grandfather were master storytellers. She sees all of life as story.
Her program will include some audience participation in a Hopi Native American story, a Jewish folk tale, a personal story or two and her dad’s favorite barroom joke.
When asked, “Where do you find stories?” Billie replies with the answer a mentor gave her years ago. “You don’t find a story…a story finds you!” The stories that find Billie are tales with a twist, stories that touch the heart or tickle the funny bone. They can be personal stories, fairy tales, folk tales, bible stories or a good bar room joke. Sources include 75 years of living life fully, three children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, books, friends, other storytellers and a gift of looking for the story in everything.
In the last ten years, Billie has discovered InterPlay, an international group of people who share movement, voice, story and stillness as they create communities of play with the purpose of living with ease and creating peace in the world. Billie leads a small community of InterPlayers in Olympia and will share a bit of InterPlay with those who come to her presentation at the Port Angeles Story Swap on Tuesday, May 13, 7 pm at the Port Angeles Public Library.
