Story Swap April 2, 2025. Rebecca Hom WASP stories
Into The Wind
To gain more lift at takeoff, pilots position their aircraft directly into the wind. During WWII the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots proudly flew into the headwinds of gender bias and cultural conventions. The WASP were the first bold female pilots to fly US military planes. Rebecca shares their stories of risk, humor and stamina. They faced skepticism of their abilities, and flew during the upheaval of a world at war. Rebecca will share stories of three WASP with particularly close connections to our Pacific Northwest region.

Rebecca is an award winning storyteller and a past recipient of the National Storytelling Network’s Oracle Award. She has delved into the stories and history of the WASP for the past decade after a thin YA book jumped off the shelf as she strolled the stacks in her neighborhood library. “Curiosity leads to adventures – usually good ones!”.
