Authentic Interaction with Judith Black
Authentic Interaction
…is when we, the tellers, are able to create spontaneous bridges between our listeners, ourselves, and the story.
Much more subtle than planned participation, Authentic Interaction requires that a teller be open, flexible, and responsive to the environment and listeners in any setting.
The teller’s natural responses and adjustments in both style and story create that unique, once in a life time moment that makes storytelling the absolutely irreplaceable art form that it is.
Judith Black
Judith has been featured ten times at the National Storytelling Festival, and served three times as Teller-in Residence at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesboro TN.
She is sought after as both a performer and workshop leader throughout the world. In 2010 she won the MassMouth Big Mouthoff with a 4-minute story about her son’s return home from combat duty in Iraq.
Judith has also been instrumental in introducing story slams in Amsterdam, Finland, and Sweden, emphasizing personal experience and authenticity in shaping stories for public telling. Her work is not restricted to one or another genre, topic, or age group. She has produced children’s stories that deal with authentic issues through laughter, as well as darker features of comedy and tragedy.
