How To Tell A StoryBil Lepp at microphone

Let’s face it, some people can tell a story better than others. Some of that is natural talent, but a big part is stagecraft. Do you swallow your punch lines? Do you laugh at your own jokes? Can the audience hear you? Are you telling a story or are you acting it out? Are you saying “It was wonderful” or are you describing the wonderful event and letting the audience figure out why it was wonderful? Are you the hero of your own story? Are you being sentimental just for the sake of tugging heart strings? Do you believe in the story? Is your story appropriate for the audience to whom you are speaking? Are you taking yourself too seriously, or patronizing your audience?

I guess this workshop could be called “Bil Lepp’s Pet Peeves.” Bring a SHORT story, maybe five minutes, that you are ready to tell. It would help if it wasn’t brand new, so we can see how you tell practiced material. And then be ready to have a serious discussion about your presentation. This workshop is only for the serious and the brave who REALLY want to hear how I think they can improve.
